Why early HAVS symptoms should not be ignored

Early symptoms are often intermittent and easy to dismiss.

However, progression can occur if exposure continues unchecked.

Early signs

  • Tingling

  • Numbness

  • Sensitivity to cold

At this stage, changes in exposure or monitoring often prevent progression.

Later signs

  • Persistent numbness

  • Loss of dexterity

  • Frequent blanching

These are harder to reverse and may affect long-term work ability.

Importance of surveillance

The purpose of surveillance is early recognition so work can continue safely rather than be stopped later.
