HAVS Screening (Tier 1 & 2) Online Service UK

PEMS Health provides online HAVS screening for employers whose staff use vibrating tools.

This allows organisations to monitor symptoms, identify early concerns and decide when further assessment is needed.

The service is suitable for companies of any size and can be used across multiple sites.

Employers typically use screening to monitor workers exposed to vibrating tools and identify when clinical advice is required.

What is HAVS screening?

HAVS screening is the routine questionnaire stage of vibration health surveillance.

It is used to detect early symptoms before permanent problems develop. The purpose is to detect change over time rather than make a diagnosis.

Employees complete a structured questionnaire about hand symptoms, circulation and sensation.

Screening is typically performed:

  • Before starting vibration exposure (baseline)

  • Annually thereafter

  • More frequently if symptoms are reported

Why employers carry out screening

The purpose of screening is early detection and safe management — not diagnosis.

Screening helps employers to:

  • Identify possible symptoms early

  • Monitor workers over time

  • Decide when clinical assessment is required

  • Demonstrate appropriate health surveillance arrangements

  • Most workers will remain in routine surveillance without needing further assessment

Most employees continue normal work following screening. Only a small proportion require further assessment.
