When is a Tier 4 HAVS assessment required?

A Tier 4 assessment is usually arranged when symptoms are identified during routine surveillance.

This often follows a questionnaire or nurse review where concerns are raised.

Typical triggers

  • Finger blanching

  • Persistent tingling or numbness

  • Reduced grip strength

  • Repeated abnormal screening results

The assessment allows a decision to be made about fitness for vibration exposure.

Purpose of Tier 4

The assessment is not purely diagnostic. It provides occupational guidance:

  • Can the employee continue exposure

  • Are restrictions needed

  • Is redeployment required

This allows employers to manage risk appropriately and continue surveillance safely.
